Best Time to Visit Dukezong
Morning (8-10 AM) is the golden window. The light is soft for photos, the prayer wheel area is empty, and the ticket line is short. I always bring my groups at 8:30 sharp.
Avoid 11 AM – 2 PM — that's when tour buses arrive. The main street gets packed, and the queue for the Giant Prayer Wheel can take 15 minutes. Also, the sun is directly overhead, making photos harsh.
After 4 PM, the crowds thin again, and the sunset light on the old Tibetan houses is stunning. But remember the ticket office closes at 5:30 PM — if you enter after 4, you'll still get a full experience before dusk.
