They'd end up exhausted, overspending, and missing the real Zhuhai. This itinerary is different. It's built from years of local guiding — the shortcuts, the timing tricks, the places that actually accept your foreign credit card. Let's cut the fluff.
Day 1: Chimelong Ocean Kingdom – Full Day with Insider Hacks
This is Zhuhai's superstar attraction, but it's also a money pit if you don't plan right. Chimelong Ocean Kingdom is one of the largest aquariums in Asia — think massive whale sharks, roller coasters, and animal shows. But here's the thing most guides won't tell you: the place is huge, and if you wander around aimlessly, you'll waste hours walking.
Get There Early (And Use the Right Entrance)
The park opens at 10:00 AM, but I always tell my groups to arrive by 9:30. Why? The security check and ticket scan lines get nasty by 10:15. Use the main gate (正门). Don't let your taxi driver drop you at the side entrance — it's farther from the best starting point. Must-See Shows & Order
The park has a dedicated app, but it's all in Chinese. Here's my shortcut: head straight to the Whale Shark Aquarium first (10:00–11:00 AM, before the crowds). Then catch the 11:30 dolphin show. After lunch (around 1:00 PM), do the roller coasters — lines thin out then. The 4:00 PM parade is worth watching, but don't bother with the night show unless you're staying till closing; it's crowded and the walk back to the exit is a nightmare.
Tickets: Adult (370 RMB on weekday, 395 RMB on weekend). Book via Trip.com or Klook — they accept foreign cards and give instant e-tickets. You'll need your passport number for the reservation. Day 2: City Highlights – Lover's Road & Couples
This day is all about Zhuhai's coastal charm without the theme park chaos. Start your morning slow — you earned it after yesterday.
Morning: Lover's Road (情侣路) & Zhuhai Fisher Girl
This 28-km coastal road is the city's spine. The most photogenic stretch is from the Zhuhai Fisher Girl statue (珠海渔女) to the Sun Yat-sen University campus. Rent a bike from one of the many shared-bike stations (use Alipay to scan — it works with foreign accounts). The ride takes about 1.5 hours with stops. Address: Fisher Girl statue, Jida Road, Zhuhai (珠海吉大路珠海渔女).
Pro tip on timing: Go before 10 AM. The road gets packed with tour buses after 10:30, and the heat is brutal from 11 AM to 3 PM. I once brought a group at 2 PM — half of them nearly passed out.
Lunch: Local Seafood Near the Fishing Port
Don't eat at the tourist restaurants facing Lover's Road. Instead, walk 10 minutes inland to 海鲜街 (Seafood Street) near Xiangzhou Port. Try Yue Ji Seafood Restaurant (粤记海鲜). A replica of Beijing's Old Summer Palace, but on a much smaller scale. It's a pleasant walk, and entry is free! But here's the catch: you need to reserve a spot via the WeChat mini-program (圆明新园预约). The mini-program is entirely in Chinese. If you can't navigate it, just show up early (before 9 AM) and ask the security guard politely — sometimes they let you in without a reservation if it's not packed. Address: 139 Daqing Road, Xiangzhou District, Zhuhai (珠海市香洲区大石林路139号). Open 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM; last entry 4:30 PM.
Evening: Couples' Road Sunset & Dinner
Head back to Lover's Road near the Zhuhai Grand Theater (珠海大剧院) — also known as the Sun and Moon Shell (日月贝). The shells light up beautifully after sunset. Dinner recommendation: Lian Hua Wan Restaurant (莲花湾) at No. 58 Yinshijia Street. Specializes in Cantonese dim sum and roast duck. Google rating 4.2. Average: 60-80 RMB per person. They have an English menu with pictures.
Day 3: Island Escape – Dong'ao
Zhuhai's islands are the real hidden gem. Dong'ao Island is my favorite because it's less commercialized than Wailingding and has better beaches. But getting there requires some planning.
Getting to Dong'ao Island
Ferries depart from Xiangzhou Port (香洲港). Address: 77 Tong Yue Dong Road, Zhuhai (珠海市同悦东街77号). Buy tickets at least one day in advance via Trip.com or Klook — they sell out fast, especially on weekends. Ferry schedule: 9:00 AM, 11:00 AM, 2:00 PM (return: 10:30 AM, 1:00 PM, 4:30 PM). The ride is 50 minutes. Ticket price: 85 RMB one way.
What to Do on Dong'ao
Walk the island's coast path — it takes about 2 hours to circle the main part. Visit Jinshaitan (Golden Sand Beach) for a swim. The water is clean and not too deep. Lunch: Try the fresh seafood at Lin Jia Seafood (林记海鲜) near the dock. Ask for the catch of the day — they'll grill it with garlic. Average: 100 RMB per person. Cash or Alipay only.
Important: The island has limited accommodation. If you plan to stay overnight (not necessary for this 4-day itinerary), book a room at Dong'ao Island Resort (东澳岛度假村) — basic but clean. Otherwise, catch the last ferry back at 4:30 PM and you'll be back in Zhuhai by 5:30 PM.
Another option: If the weather is bad (typhoon season June-September), skip the island and visit Zhuhai Museum (珠海博物馆) instead. It's air-conditioned, free, and has excellent exhibits on local history. Address: 88 Haibin South Road.
Day 4: Relaxed Finale – Yuanming New Park & Night Markets
Your last day should be easy. No rushing. Just enjoy Zhuhai's slower pace.
Morning: Explore a Local Market
Head to Gongbei Market (拱北市场) — it's a huge wet market where you can see exotic fruits and fresh produce. Address: 1220 Yingbin Avenue South, Gongbei (珠海市拱北迎宾南路1220号). Try a fresh coconut or dragon fruit. Most vendors accept Alipay or cash. This is a great place to pick up dried seafood as souvenirs.
Lunch: Street Food at Gongbei Underground Mall
Right below the market is a sprawling underground mall with dozens of food stalls. My go-to is the wonton noodles (云吞面) at stall #38 — the broth is rich and the wontons are plump. Average cost: 15-25 RMB. Don't forget to try the egg waffles (鸡蛋仔) for dessert.
Afternoon: Jing'anshi Village (静安寺村) — A Hidden Artistic Spot
This is a new find even many locals don't know. It's a small village turned art district with colorful murals and quiet cafes. Address: Jing'anshi Village, Xiangzhou District (珠海市香洲区静安寺村). Take bus route 14 to the 'Jing'anshi' stop. Spend an hour wandering and grab a coffee at Village Corner Cafe — they have decent Wi-Fi and accept international cards via a Square reader (rare!).
Evening: Final Dinner at Haidilao (海底捞)
End your trip with a legendary hotpot experience. Haidilao in Zhuhai is located at Huafa Plaza (华发商都), 8 Huafa Road.
