If you want a stress-free weekend away, go to Zhuhai. It doesn't have the crazy landmarks of Guangzhou or Shenzhen, but it has so much charm. I loved wandering around Gongbei, then taking a slow afternoon at the beach. The locals were incredibly friendly, and I had amazing seafood for hardly any money. The whole city felt peaceful and safe, even at night. Easily five stars from me.
We took a spontaneous ferry from Shenzhen to Zhuhai and ended up loving it. The city is super pedestrian-friendly and the waterfront is gorgeous. Went up to Zhuhai's Fisher Girl statue and spent ages just watching the waves. Everything felt open and fresh, unlike the usual tourist packed spots. Even the hotel was affordable and had a sea view. Already planning my next trip back!
Zhuhai quickly became one of my favorite places in China! It’s spotlessly clean, quiet, and so much more relaxed than the bigger cities. I rented a bike and rode from the city center to Lovers Road at sunset, and honestly it was magical. Palm trees, gentle sea breeze, no crowds—what more could you want? The local dim sum was also incredible. I absolutely recommend a stay here if you want to recharge.
I spent a weekend in Zhuhai and really enjoyed the laid-back vibe. The walking path along the coast is perfect for a slow morning, and the views of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge are stunning. I was slightly let down by the local beach, which was a bit rocky and not great for swimming. But the food scene surprised me—especially the Cantonese seafood places near Wanzai. Solid four stars overall.
Zhuhai was a mixed stop for me. The seaside area around Lovers Road is pretty, and the city feels very green. But I found it hard to get around without a car—buses took forever and some attractions were far apart. Also, a lot of construction near the train station made it feel a bit messy. Clean and safe, but not the amazing experience I expected. An okay city break, nothing more.
Took a weekend trip to Zhuhai with my family and it was perfect. The amusement park impressed the kids, but the highlight for me was the quiet island hopping and the fresh seafood market where we picked our own crab and got it cooked right there. Everything was super affordable and the air felt so fresh compared to Guangzhou. Highly recommend.
