Honestly, I was a bit let down by the Luoyang Museum. The building is impressive from the outside, but the exhibits felt old and poorly lit. Half of the description plaques were in Chinese only (I get it, but at least have QR codes for English). Also, the air conditioning wasn't working well on a hot day – it was stuffy inside. Some artifacts are interesting, but overall it didn't live up to the hype. Okay for a rainy day, but I'd skip it if you're short on time.
White Horse Temple is definitely worth the visit – it's peaceful, scenic, and has a rich history. The pagodas and ancient halls are beautifully preserved. However, I did find the souvenir shops right at the entrance a bit too pushy, and the crowds on a Saturday were intense. Still, if you can go on a weekday and ignore the vendors, it's a serene spot. A solid 4 stars from me.
The Luoyang Water Banquet was a culinary adventure I’ll never forget! I tried it at a local restaurant called 'Zhen Butong' and the staff were incredibly patient explaining each dish. The cold appetizers, the soup-filled dumplings, and the famous 'Luoyang Swallow' – everything was packed with flavor. Even my picky eater friend cleaned his plate. For anyone wanting authentic local food, this is a must. Just come hungry!
Absolutely blown away by the Longmen Grottoes! I spent almost 4 hours wandering through the caves and couldn't get enough of the intricate carvings. The sheer scale of it is humbling. Make sure to go early in the morning to avoid the crowds – the light hitting the Buddha statues at sunrise is magical. Easily one of the most impressive historical sites I've ever visited. 10/10 would recommend!
Came for the Peony Festival and left with my heart full. The gardens at the Luoyang National Peony Park are so well-maintained, with flowers in every color you can imagine. It felt like walking through a dream. There were also traditional dance performances scattered around which added to the charm. The only downside? The museum inside was a bit underwhelming, but the flowers more than made up for it. An unforgettable spring experience.
