Unforgettable experience! The scale, the history, the art – it all comes together perfectly. I took a guided tour and the stories behind each cave made it come alive. The main Buddha is enormous and humbling. Even the walk along the cliff gives you a sense of ancient craftsmanship. Highly recommend going in the late afternoon for golden hour lighting on the stone.
Honestly, I'm a bit disappointed. The grottoes themselves are impressive, but the management is terrible. So many of the smaller statues have been damaged or stolen over the years, and the preservations efforts feel half-hearted. The ticket price is steep for what you actually see up close (most caves are roped off). If you've seen other big grottoes in China, this might feel repetitive.
Loved every minute! My second visit and it's even more amazing than I remembered. The way the carvings blend with the natural rock face is just perfect. I spent hours just staring at the different expressions on the Buddha faces. The nearby river adds a peaceful vibe too. Definitely one of China's finest historical treasures.
Impressive historical site, but honestly a bit overwhelming with the number of tourists even on a weekday. The long walk along the cliffside gives you a great sense of the scale, and the audio guide is worth it for context. I loved seeing the giant Vairocana Buddha up close – the craftsmanship is unreal. Just wish there were more shaded resting spots in the summer heat.
Absolutely breathtaking! The sheer scale of the Buddhist carvings is mind-blowing. We arrived right at opening time to beat the crowds, and seeing the sunrise light up the main Binyang Cave was a spiritual experience. The details on the smallest statues are incredible. If you're in Luoyang, this is a must-see. Wear comfortable shoes and bring water – it's huge!
Good, not great. The rock carvings are impressive, but the site felt too commercialized – loudspeakers blasting announcements, and vendors everywhere. I wish they had more shaded rest areas because it gets scorching hot. Also, the restrooms were not well maintained. For the price, I expected a bit more comfort. Still, the history is undeniable.
What an incredible piece of history! I loved how you can see the different artistic styles from various dynasties. The light hitting the statues in the late afternoon made for amazing photos. The walk along the river is scenic too. Only downside: the souvenir shops near the exit are overpriced. Otherwise, a perfect day out.
Honestly, I was a bit underwhelmed. Maybe I built it up too much in my head. The main statues are cool, but a lot of the smaller faces have eroded badly, and the constant pushing through tour groups killed the vibe. For the entrance fee, I expected better maintenance or at least clearer paths. It's worth a quick look, but not a full day trip.
Impressive site, but be prepared for crowds even on a weekday. The main Buddha is iconic, but I was more fascinated by the smaller grottoes on the upper walkway. My only complaint is that the signage could be better – some areas had no English descriptions, so I relied on an audio guide. Still, a solid 4-star experience.
Absolutely breathtaking! The sheer scale of the carvings is mind-blowing. I went early in the morning to beat the crowds, and having the main statues all to myself for a few minutes was surreal. The details in the smallest Buddha figures are incredible. A must-see for anyone visiting Luoyang – definitely worth the journey.
