This place exceeded our expectations! The kids were fascinated by the interactive feeding areas—llamas, tortoises, and even some parrots. We also loved the section where you can walk among the lemurs. Very educational and not overly crowded. A perfect half-day activity for families. Highly recommended!

Not bad for a quick outing. I liked the variety of animals—saw crocodiles, monkeys, and even a white lion. But the signage was mostly in Chinese with very little English, so we missed some info. Also the map they gave us was out of date and confusing. Could be better organized.

We spent a full afternoon here with our two kids and had a great time. The shows were fun (especially the bird show) and the walk-through aviary let us get really close to the birds. Only downside is the food court is overpriced and the choices are limited. Bring snacks if you can.

Absolutely loved it! Fed the giraffes right from my hand and saw a playful baby elephant splashing in the pool. The staff were super friendly and the whole place felt clean and safe. Definitely a highlight of our Hainan trip—worth every yuan. Bring sunscreen and water though, it gets hot!

The park is huge and well-maintained, but honestly I was a bit disappointed with the animal enclosures. Some of them looked too small and bare, especially for the big cats. The botanical garden part was lovely though—lots of tropical flowers and a nice shaded walking path. Wouldn't rush back, but it's okay for a one-time visit.

Hainan Tropical Wildlife Park Travel FAQ

How long does it take to go through the whole park?
Plan for at least 4 hours if you’re walking at a normal pace. If you sit through the bird show and take lots of photos, budget 5-6 hours. The botanical garden alone can take 1.5 hours if you’re a plant lover.
Can I bring my own food and drinks into the park?
Yes, you can bring snacks and water. I always bring a bottle and refill it at the free water stations near restrooms. Just don’t feed your own food to the animals—they have strict diets.
Is the park suitable for elderly people or those with mobility issues?
Partly. The walkable areas are mostly flat, but the botanical garden has some gentle slopes. Wheelchair users might struggle on the dirt paths after rain. However, the mini-train is accessible. I recommend renting a mobility scooter if available—call ahead to check.
Do I need to book tickets in advance?
Not strictly necessary on weekdays, but on weekends and holidays it’s wise to pre-book via their WeChat mini-program to avoid long queues. The mini-program is in Chinese only, so ask your hotel staff for help.
What other attractions are nearby the park?
About 10 minutes away by car is the Hainan Museum (free), where you can learn about local ethnic groups and natural history. Also, the Mission Hills resort complex with its volcanic hot springs and golf courses is a 20-minute drive. I often recommend combining the wildlife park with a visit to the ancient volcanic cluster (Leiqun Ma’anling) if you have a full day.
How much time do I really need at Hainan Tropical Wildlife Park?
Most first-timers spend 4 to 5 hours. If you’re a serious wildlife or plant enthusiast, plan 6 hours. The drive-through shuttle takes about 30–40 minutes; the walking areas require more time.
Is the park wheelchair accessible?
Partially. The main walking paths are flat and wheelchair-friendly, but the aviary and some greenhouse paths are narrow. The drive-through is fully accessible. I recommend renting a wheelchair in Haikou rather than depending on the park.
Can I feed the animals?
Only in the designated feeding areas during the drive-through tour (VIP car required). You can buy carrots and lettuce at the park. Don’t feed your own food — it can make animals sick.
What’s the best season to visit?
November to April is cooler and less rainy. The gardens are still green. June to August is hot and humid, but you’ll see more flowering plants. I actually prefer late October — fewer tourists, comfortable weather.
Are there any hidden costs?
The VIP car for the drive-through costs extra (about 100 RMB per person). Also, some special animal shows (like the parrot show) may have a small fee. Otherwise, all exhibits are included in the ticket.
