Why the train wins
Before the railway opened, your only options were a 40-minute flight (expensive, often delayed by weather) or a 7-10 hour bus ride (cheap, but your back will hate you). The Jiuzhaigou high-speed railway (part of the Chengdu-Lanzhou line) now runs from Chengdu East to Huanglong Jiuzhai Station (also called Jiuzhaigou Station locally). Travel time? Around 1 hour 40 minutes. That's it.
Here's the catch though — the station is not inside the park. It's about 40-50 minutes by shuttle bus to the park entrance. But compared to the old bus journey, it's heaven.
Ticket booking nightmare? Here's the fix
Online booking for foreigners used to be a pain. Most foreign credit cards get rejected on 12306.cn (the official railway site), and the WeChat mini-program is entirely in Chinese. Getting from station to park
Once you step off the train at Huanglong Jiuzhai Station, you'll see a bus terminal right outside. Buses run to Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area (the south entrance) and to Songpan County (for Huanglong). The ride takes about 40 minutes and costs around 35 CNY per person. Pay in cash or scan a QR code — but cash is safer because your overseas phone plan might not load the QR payment.
Don't take unlicensed taxis. They'll charge 3x the price. Stick to the official shuttle. Also, note that the last bus from the station departs around 7pm. If your train arrives late, you might need to spend a night at the station town (not ideal).
