This was the highlight of my Hong Kong trip! The 360 cable car gives you such a smooth ride with panoramic views of the ocean and mountains. Once you're up, the Big Buddha is majestic — it really makes you feel small. I loved sitting in the shade near the monastery just listening to the wind chimes. The vegetarian lunch at the Po Lin Monastery was surprisingly good too. 10/10 would go again.
Honestly, I was expecting more. The cable car ride was nice but nothing spectacular compared to other scenic rides I've done. The Buddha statue is huge, yes, but the whole area felt overly commercialized — constant souvenir stalls and overpriced snacks. We went on a cloudy day and could barely see the view from the top, which might have ruined it. For the price of the ticket, I think it's overrated. Maybe try a hike up instead?
Ngong Ping 360 is a great way to see Lantau Island from above. The glass-bottom cabin option is a fun thrill if you're not afraid of heights. The Buddha area is well-maintained and the views from the top are excellent. However, the queue for the cable car took almost 45 minutes even on a weekday, and the cabins can get stuffy when it's hot. Still, a solid 4/5 — just come prepared for a wait and bring water.
A beautiful and serene place. The giant Buddha is truly a sight to behold, and the walk up the steps feels almost meditative. The Ngong Ping Village has some nice shops and a decent tea house. We spent about 3 hours there including the cable car round trip. The only downside is the ticket price — it's a bit steep for what you get, but the experience itself is memorable. Would definitely recommend if you're in HK.
Absolutely stunning! The Ngong Ping 360 cable car ride alone is worth the trip — crystal clear views of the mountains and the South China Sea. Once at the top, the Tian Tan Buddha is even more impressive in person. You can climb the 268 steps for a close-up, and the surrounding monastery adds a peaceful vibe. Highly recommend going early in the morning to avoid crowds. One of the best day trips I've ever done in Hong Kong!
One of the best day trips from Hong Kong city. The Ngong Ping 360 cable car ride is smooth and scenic, and the Buddha site is both culturally rich and visually stunning. I loved the Po Lin Monastery's architecture and the peaceful atmosphere. Even the souvenir shops had authentic local crafts. Everything was well signposted and clean. If you only do one thing outside Central, make it this. Absolutely five stars.
This place exceeded every expectation. Took the crystal cabin cable car (worth the extra fee!) – the unobstructed views of Lantau Island are breathtaking. The Buddha is enormous and serene, and the Wisdom Path nearby offers a quiet walk with beautiful wooden pillars carved with sutras. Spent a whole morning exploring, had vegetarian lunch at the monastery – simple but delicious. Highly recommend coming early to avoid peak crowds.
Absolutely blown away by the Tian Tan Buddha. Standing at the base looking up at that massive bronze statue is humbling. The cable car ride up is an experience in itself – glass floors gave me butterflies but the views of the airport and sea are unreal. The whole area is well maintained and peaceful despite the tourists. A must-do when in HK – 5 stars without hesitation!
Pretty good day out overall. The Ngong Ping 360 cable car ride offers stunning panoramic views of the mountains and sea – definitely the highlight for me. The Tian Tan Buddha is majestic, though climbing all those steps in the heat was a workout. The nearby village felt a bit too commercial and touristy. Still, worth a visit if you're in Hong Kong, just manage your expectations on the crowds.
Honestly, the Buddha statue itself is impressive, but the whole experience felt overpriced and overcrowded. We waited almost an hour for the cable car, and once up there, it was packed with tour groups. The weather was hazy so the view wasn't great either. I get it's a popular spot, but for the money and time, I expected more. Wouldn't rush back.
Loved the mix of nature and culture. The ride up on Ngong Ping 360 was breathtaking — I went on a clear day and could see all the way to the airport. The Buddha statue is incredibly well-maintained, and the nearby Wisdom Path is a short, peaceful walk. Only downside: the queues for the cable car can be long, so book online in advance.
Honestly a bit overhyped and expensive. The cable car ticket is pricey, and then you have to walk up 268 steps to the Buddha — fine if you're fit, but my knees were killing me. The view from the top is nice, but not mind-blowing. Also, the staff at the ticket counter were pretty rude when we asked about discounts. Won't rush back.
Incredible from start to finish! The crystal cabin on Ngong Ping 360 gave us a thrilling glass-bottom view over the trees. Once at the top, the serenity around the Big Buddha really hit us — you can feel the spiritual vibe even if you're not religious. Highly recommend pairing it with a vegetarian lunch at Po Lin Monastery.
A solid half-day trip from the city. The cable car is fun and you get some nice panoramic shots. The Buddha itself is massive and the surrounding monastery is calm. Only gave it 4 stars because the village on top felt a bit too commercial — lots of souvenir shops and overpriced food. Still worth it for the views and the statue.
Absolutely stunning experience! The Ngong Ping 360 cable car ride was smooth and offered jaw-dropping views of the mountains and the South China Sea. The Tian Tan Buddha is even more impressive up close — so peaceful and majestic. We went early to beat the crowds and had the whole place almost to ourselves. Definitely a must-do in Hong Kong!
Loved the contrast between the modern cable car experience and the ancient Buddhist atmosphere. The ride offers fantastic views of Lantau Island and the airport runway. The Big Buddha is serene and majestic, and we enjoyed walking the 268 steps to get close. The vegetarian lunch at the monastery was simple but delicious. Only gave it 4 stars because the Ngong Ping Village felt very touristy and crowded. Still, a must-see!
Honestly, it was a bit of a letdown. We came on a hazy day and could barely see the Buddha from the cable car. The statue is big, sure, but the whole place felt overly commercial with overpriced souvenir shops and mediocre food. The queue to get down was chaotic and poorly managed. For the time and money (cable car tickets are steep), I'd rather spend the day elsewhere. Might be better on a clear day, but I was disappointed.
Went for the crystal cabin (glass bottom) and it was exhilarating! Seeing the trees and water far below while gliding over the hills is a memory I won't forget. The Big Buddha is massive and photogenic, but the real star is the cable car ride itself. The village at the top is a bit kitschy, but the temple area is peaceful. Highly recommend springing for the crystal cabin if you're not scared of heights.
I've been here a few times with visiting friends, and it's always a solid experience. The cable car is fun, though the standard cabin gets a bit hot in summer. The Buddha itself is impressive, and the surrounding temple complex has nice gardens. The only downside is the long queue for the return cable car—we waited almost an hour. Still, a great day out, just plan for crowds.
Absolutely blown away by the scale of the Big Buddha. The Ngong Ping 360 cable car ride up was smooth and offered stunning panoramic views of the mountains and the airport. Once at the top, the serenity of the statue was incredible—even with a fair number of tourists. Definitely worth the trip from Central; allow at least half a day. A spiritual and visual highlight of Hong Kong!
