Best place in Chongqing for people-watching and street food! I went for a run early in the morning (before the crowds) and the square was peaceful. Came back at night for dinner – the hot pot place near the monument was incredible. The mix of old and new architecture around the monument is fascinating. 10/10 atmosphere!
We came here on a whim and it became our favorite spot in Chongqing! The pedestrian street is huge, and we loved wandering through the side alleys. Found a tiny handmade jewelry shop run by a lovely old lady. The street performers added so much life. Even the neon signs felt artistic. Absolutely loved it!
Honestly, a bit overhyped. The plaza itself is clean and the monument is impressive historically, but the whole area is just another commercialized tourist trap. I grabbed a coffee from a chain store and the wait was forever. If you're short on time, skip it. Not much local flavor left.
A must-see landmark, but it's basically just a big pedestrian shopping area. I came during a weekday afternoon and it wasn't too crowded. The mix of modern malls and local snack vendors is nice, but I found the prices a bit higher than other parts of Chongqing. Still worth a quick walk-through to snap a photo of the monument.
Jiefangbei is the heart of Chongqing! I visited on a Saturday evening and the energy was electric. The giant monument is stunningly lit at night, and the surrounding shops and street food stalls are a feast for the senses. Had some amazing spicy skewers and watched the crowds swirl around. Can't recommend it enough for first-timers!
Jiefangbei truly shines after dark. The illuminated monument against the backdrop of towering skyscrapers is a photographer's dream. I set up my tripod near the center and captured some amazing long exposures. The pedestrian street is wide and clean, perfect for nighttime strolls. Even with the crowds, the vibe is electric and safe. One of the best urban night scenes in China. Definitely a 5-star experience for me.
If you're a food lover, Jiefangbei Pedestrian Street is paradise! From spicy hotpot to cold noodles and grilled skewers, every corner has something delicious. I tried the famous Chongqing noodles at a small shop near the monument - absolutely incredible. The street is lively day and night, and there's even a food court underground. I went back three times during my trip. Don't miss the stinky tofu! 5 stars all the way.
Absolutely loved Jiefangbei! Not just the shopping but the historical significance of the People's Liberation Monument really gives you a sense of Chongqing's wartime past. The pedestrian street is beautifully maintained with a good mix of modern stores and traditional architecture. I spent hours just people-watching and soaking in the atmosphere. Highly recommended for history lovers and anyone wanting to experience the heart of Chongqing.
Jiefangbei has a lot of energy, especially at night with all the neon lights. The monument itself is impressive and there's a good mix of shopping and dining. I enjoyed walking around, but it was very crowded on a weekend evening. Also I found the public restrooms to be lacking. Still, it's a must-see when in Chongqing, just come early to avoid the worst crowds. A solid 4 stars from me.
Honestly, I was a bit let down by Jiefangbei Pedestrian Street. It's just another crowded shopping street with big brand stores and tons of people. The iconic monument is nice for a quick photo, but the whole area felt overly touristy and chaotic. Not much local flavor aside from the street food vendors that are overpriced. If you've seen one pedestrian street in China, you've seen them all. I'd skip it if you're short on time.
This place blew my mind! From the moment you step onto the street, you’re surrounded by this incredible mix of old and new China. The food smells, the dazzling billboards, the crowd humming—it’s pure chaos but in the best way. I bought some cute souvenirs and took a thousand photos. 10/10 for atmosphere!
Came here on a rainy Tuesday afternoon. Not as lively as I expected—maybe the weather killed the mood. The monument is impressive but the street itself is just a long mall. Hard to find a quiet bench. Felt a bit overhyped. Would skip next time.
Decent pedestrian street with lots of food options. The surroundings are modern and clean. However, it feels very touristy and prices are a bit inflated compared to other areas. Spent about two hours here and then moved on. Okay for a quick visit.
Loved the energy here! It’s like the heart of Chongqing—neon lights, street food smells, and nonstop action. We went at night and the vibe was electric. Found a little dumpling stall that made my whole trip. Definitely a must-see even if you’re not a shopper.
Honestly, Jiefangbei is iconic but way too crowded for my taste. The shops are mostly big chains, nothing unique. I grabbed a coffee and just watched people pass by. Not bad, but I wouldn’t go out of my way again. The architecture of the monument is cool though.
I’d give it a 5 just for the location — right in the middle of the city with the Yangtze River visible from one end. The street performers and occasional live music add a lot of charm. However, the restaurants inside the main mall are way too pricy for what you get. Stick to the street vendors if you're on a budget. Overall an awesome experience.
Came here after 10pm and it was still buzzing! The lighting installations are stunning, and the whole place feels safe even late. Only complaint is that some of the little souvenir shops close too early — I wanted to buy a quirky fridge magnet but everything was shut by 11. Still, great for a late-night stroll. 4/5.
Loved the mix of old and new! You've got the historic Jiefangbei monument right in the center, and all around it are glittering skyscrapers and international brands. I spent an afternoon here just people-watching and trying fried skewers from a tiny stall near the monument — so good. Definitely deserves a solid 4.
I was a little underwhelmed to be honest. The pedestrian street itself is fine — clean, wide, lots of shops — but it feels like every other Chinese commercial walking street after a while. The surrounding malls are generic, and the food options are overpriced for tourists. Not terrible, but I expected more character. 3/5.
Honestly, Jiefangbei is the heart of Chongqing — the massive neon signs and the giant digital screen are just mesmerizing at night. The crowd energy is infectious, though it can get a bit too packed on weekends. Still, a must-see for first-timers; grab some street food and just soak it all in. 5/5 for the vibe.
