I can’t stop raving about my winter trip to Jilin! The Rime Island near Jilin City is pure magic—every branch coated in frost, like walking through a dream. Went ice fishing on Chagan Lake and caught a big carp which we grilled right there. The whole experience felt so authentic and peaceful. If you love winter wonderlands, book your trip now!
Jilin is a paradise for nature enthusiasts. We hiked the western slope of Changbai Mountain in July—wildflowers everywhere, crystal clear streams, and fresh pine air. The forestry museum in Dunhua was a nice bonus. Only downside: the public bus system between towns is unreliable, so plan ahead or hire a driver. Still, a solid 4-star experience overall.
Honestly, Jilin left me a bit underwhelmed. We visited in late autumn hoping for colorful foliage, but most leaves had already fallen. The weather was gray and rainy for three days. The ski resort near Beidahu was nice, but too crowded and overpriced for what you get. Maybe it’s better in peak winter or summer, but my timing was off.
We spent a week exploring Jilin province and it exceeded all expectations. The rime ice on the trees along the Songhua River was spectacular—something I’ve never seen anywhere else. Also tried authentic Korean cuisine in Yanbian, the cold noodles and bibimbap were incredible. Every local we met was warm and helpful. Highly recommend renting a car for flexibility.
Absolutely loved my trip to Jilin! The snow-covered landscapes around Changbai Mountain were straight out of a fairy tale. We took the cable car up and the view of the frozen Tianchi Lake was breathtaking. The hot springs after a day of hiking were pure bliss. Definitely a must-visit for winter lovers!
I really wanted to love Rime Island, but the timing was off. We went on a cloudy morning and the hoarfrost wasn't as thick as the pictures show. Plus, the entrance fee has gone up, and the shuttle buses were overcrowded. The rime we did see was pretty, but honestly not worth the hassle and high price. Maybe go on a colder, clearer day — I'd skip it if you're on a tight budget.
