An absolute gem. I came on a weekday morning and had whole galleries to myself. The calligraphy and jade exhibits are world-class, and the quiet atmosphere made it feel meditative. Don’t miss the small rooftop garden—it's a peaceful escape. 10/10, no complaints.
One of the best museums I’ve ever visited. The fusion of traditional Chinese painting with digital projections in the 'Dynasty of Light' exhibition gave me chills. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the view from the observation deck is fantastic. I’ll definitely return on my next trip to Shanghai.
Great experience overall! The architecture is stunning—that iconic red lantern shape is even more impressive up close. I loved the modern art section on the top floor. Only reason I’m not giving 5 stars is because the café ran out of snacks by 2pm, and it got quite crowded in the afternoon. Still highly recommend.
Honestly, I was a bit disappointed. The permanent collection is impressive, but many of the interactive displays were broken or under maintenance when I visited. Also, the signage in English is minimal, so I felt lost at times. It’s okay for the price (free entry), but I expected more for such a renowned museum.
The China Art Museum is absolutely breathtaking. I spent nearly four hours wandering through the massive halls, and every corner offered something new—from ancient scrolls to mind-blowing contemporary installations. The sheer scale of the building alone is worth the visit. A must-see for any art lover visiting Shanghai!
This place is a gem. The sheer scale of the exhibitions is mind-boggling. I was particularly moved by the contemporary Chinese art section. Clean, well-organized, and reasonably priced. Couldn't recommend it more for anyone visiting Shanghai.
Incredible museum — one of the best I've visited in Asia. The lighting and display of the artworks are top-notch. I loved the modern wing especially. Perfect for an afternoon of quiet reflection. Highly recommend getting there early to avoid crowds.
Absolutely stunning! The architecture alone is worth the trip, but the collection blew me away. Spent three hours there and still felt like I missed half of it. The staff were friendly and the whole place was spotless. A must-see in Shanghai!
Solid museum with some impressive pieces, especially the traditional Chinese paintings. The layout felt a bit scattered, and the audio guide wasn't super helpful. Still, it's worth a visit if you're into art — just don't expect a world-class experience.
Honestly, I was a bit let down. The building itself is stunning, but a lot of the exhibitions were closed for maintenance, and the signage was confusing. Spent more time wandering around than actually enjoying art. For the price, I expected more.
Absolutely blown away by the fusion of modern architecture and traditional Chinese art. The special exhibition on ancient scrolls was incredibly curated, with detailed English descriptions that made the history come alive. The gift shop has unique prints you won't find elsewhere. I'd go back just for the rooftop view!
I came expecting world-class exhibits and left feeling a bit underwhelmed. The contemporary section felt dated and the audio guide was glitchy. Also, the signage in English is minimal – non-Chinese speakers might struggle to navigate. The massive escalator is cool, but that can't carry the whole experience.
Took my kids here on a rainy Sunday, and they loved the interactive digital art section! The staff were friendly and patient with little ones. The building itself is a work of art – that red architectural feature is iconic. Clean restrooms and decent café. Would recommend for a low-key cultural outing.
For a free museum, it's okay. But the main hall felt a bit empty and the permanent collection seemed sparse compared to other major art museums I've visited. Some exhibits were closed without notice, which was disappointing. Still worth a quick look if you're nearby, but don't plan your whole day around it.
Spent a whole afternoon here and still felt like I barely scratched the surface. The sheer scale of the museum is breathtaking, and the rotating exhibitions on traditional ink painting were absolutely stunning. The lighting is well-designed, making each piece pop. A must-visit for any art enthusiast in Shanghai!
Shanghai's crown jewel of art museums! I've been twice and each time discover something new. The rotating exhibitions are thoughtful and well-labeled in English. The museum shop has unique souvenirs. Can't recommend enough for any art lover visiting Shanghai.
Had a lovely quiet afternoon here. The view from the top floor observation deck alone is worth the trip. Loved the ink painting section. Only downside: the café was overpriced and the food was mediocre. Still, a relaxing cultural escape.
Came here on a rainy day expecting a lot. The building is cool from outside but inside it's mostly empty space. Many galleries were closed or under renovation. For the entrance fee, I'd rather spend time at a smaller museum with more substance.
Impressive architecture but the curation felt a bit scattered. Some halls had incredible works while others felt empty. The staff were friendly though. Worth a visit if you're into art, but don't expect a cohesive narrative.
Absolutely stunning building! The spiral ramp and massive interior are breathtaking. The permanent collection on modern Chinese art is world-class. A must-see in Shanghai. Just wish the temporary exhibits were bigger.
