What a hidden gem! I went on a weekday in October and had entire stretches of the wall to myself. The autumn foliage made the hike unforgettable – orange and red leaves against the gray stone. The staff at the ticket office were friendly and spoke some English. The only downside was the overpriced water at the top, so bring your own. Absolutely worth the trip from Tianjin city.
It's okay but overhyped. The wall itself is impressive, but the restoration here felt a bit too modern in places – some bricks looked brand new. Also, the local vendors near the entrance were really pushy, which took away from the atmosphere. The view from the highest tower was nice, but I've seen better at Jinshanling. Decent trip if you're in Tianjin, but not worth a special detour.
I walked the entire loop from the east to the west and it was a solid workout! The steep stairs are no joke. But I loved how quiet it was – barely saw anyone on the northern side. The cable car saved my legs on the way down. Perfect for travelers who want a raw, less commercialized Great Wall experience. Bring water and snacks, there aren't many shops once you're up there.
Good experience overall but a bit let down by the upkeep. Some sections of the wall had loose bricks and uneven steps that felt unsafe, especially with kids. The scenery is beautiful, but for the entrance fee I expected better maintenance. The restrooms near the entrance were also quite dirty. Would still recommend for the views, just watch your step.
Absolutely stunning! We arrived just before sunset and the golden light hitting the ancient stones was magical. Not as crowded as Mutianyu, which made the hike so peaceful. The watchtowers are incredibly well preserved and the views of the surrounding mountains are breathtaking. Definitely one of the best sections of the Great Wall I've ever visited. Highly recommend taking the cable car up and walking down.
