Honestly expected more given the hype. We went on a cloudy Tuesday thinking it'd be quiet, but several major rides were closed for maintenance – including the big wooden coaster I was most excited for. To make things worse, a sudden afternoon thunderstorm shut down all outdoor rides for nearly two hours, and we ended up stuck in a cramped indoor queue with no shelter updates. The park didn't offer any compensation or rain check. Also the hot dogs were cold and overpriced. Maybe I'll give it another shot on a better day, but this visit was a letdown.

Solid theme park with some world-class coasters, but a few things kept it from being perfect for me. Got there at 10am and by 11am the queues were already 50+ minutes for the top rides. The park layout is a bit confusing – felt like I walked in circles trying to find the haunted mansion. Also the app's estimated wait times were completely off. On the plus side, the staff were polite and the roller coasters themselves are truly awesome. If you plan ahead and go on a weekday, it's a 4-star experience.

If you're into night vibes, don't miss Happy Valley after dark! We went for the summer night event and it was pure magic – the entire park lit up, a DJ stage near the lake, and two spectacular drone shows. The rides feel even more thrilling when you're flying under the stars. Only downside was the 45-minute wait for the big coaster even with single rider line. But the atmosphere made up for it. Highly recommend for couples or groups.

Took my 7-year-old and 10-year-old here on a sunny Saturday. So many rides for different age groups – the little one loved the fantasy castle area while my older kid went on the smaller coasters. The water play area was a lifesaver in the heat. Only thing: the food court is pricey and not great, but we brought our own snacks. We stayed from open to close and everyone slept on the metro back. Will definitely come again!

Absolutely insane roller coasters! I've been to theme parks all over Asia and Happy Valley Shanghai ranks right up there. The Wooden Coaster (Mega-Lite) was smooth yet wild, and the Dive Coaster gave me that stomach-drop feeling I crave. The park was clean, staff were friendly, and the Halloween haunted houses in October were next-level. Definitely worth the trip from downtown – get the express pass if you can. 10/10 experience!

Evening visits to Happy Valley are underrated. Showed up at 4 PM and stayed until closing at 9. The lights at night transform the whole park into a neon wonderland. The Diving Coaster in the dark is a whole different beast—terrifying and awesome. Only downsides: some food stalls close early, so grab dinner before 7. Music events near the lake were bumping. Felt like a party. 5 stars easy!

Took my 8-year-old daughter here for her birthday and it was a dream come true. The kids’ zone has gentle rides like the mini teacups and a carousel that even I enjoyed. She loved the 4D cinema—the wind and water effects made her shriek with joy. The staff were patient and helped her strap in safely. We ate at the Western restaurant inside and the pizza was actually decent. Best family day ever!

Absolutely blew my mind! This park is massive and beautifully themed—the pirate ship area is super photogenic. I rode the Giant Disc twice because it’s pure adrenaline. The staff even high-fived me after my first drop. Clean restrooms, fast queue management even without express pass (went on a weekday), and the sunset view from the Ferris wheel was magical. 100% coming back next season!

Had a decent day out with my friends. The water park section was a nice surprise—clean and not too crowded in the afternoon. The wooden roller coaster (my favorite) gave a good rush. The only letdown was the food: overpriced and bland noodles near the entrance. Bring your own snacks if you can. Overall, a solid 4-star experience—fun rides but mediocre dining options.

Honestly, the roller coasters here are insane. I’ve been to a few amusement parks but the Wooden Coaster had me screaming like a kid. However, the wait times are brutal—over 90 minutes for the Mega Coaster on a Saturday. If you don’t get the express pass, you’ll burn half your day standing in line. Staff were efficient but seemed a bit robotic, no smiles. Worth it for the thrills, but only if you plan ahead.

Went for the Halloween night event and it was a blast! The decorations were top-notch and the scare actors really committed to their roles. The 'Midnight Manor' haunted house had amazing special effects. However, some areas were so crowded you could barely move, and the food stalls ran out of basic items like water by 8pm. For the spooky atmosphere alone it's worth it, but maybe go earlier to grab snacks.

Best family day out! My 8-year-old loved the 'Happy Parachute' and the water play area. There's a dedicated kids' zone that’s well-shaded and clean. We even caught the afternoon parade – the dancers were so energetic. My only small complaint: the stroller rental was a bit pricey, but the staff helped us with a broken buckle right away. Highly recommend for families with young kids!

Honestly, I was a bit let down. I visited in late October and many rides were closed for maintenance (no warning on the website). The ones that were open felt a bit worn out – the safety bars were rusty and the ride photos were overpriced. Also, the park map on the app didn't update live queue times. For the ticket price, I expected more polish. Maybe it's better during peak season?

Had a solid day here, but the queues were brutal even on a weekday. The 'Mega Drop' tower gave me an amazing view of the whole park before dropping – that part was fantastic. However, the staff at the entrance seemed a bit grumpy and the lockers for rides cost extra which felt nickel-and-diming. Overall a good time, but manage your expectations on wait times.

Absolutely insane roller coasters! I've been to theme parks all over Asia, and Happy Valley Shanghai's wooden coaster 'Wooden Coaster - Fireball' is one of the best I've ever ridden. The drops are relentless and the airtime is pure bliss. Staff were efficient and the park was clean. Only gripe is the food options are limited and overpriced, but that’s pretty standard for theme parks. Would come back in a heartbeat!

Went for the night event and the light decorations were stunning – the Ferris wheel all lit up is perfect for photos. The live show on the lake was pretty impressive too. Downsides: most food stalls closed early, so we ended up eating cold hot dogs. Also, the restrooms near the back could use a deep clean. Still a fun evening, just bring snacks!

Brought my two kids (ages 8 and 11) and we had a blast! The kids' zone is well-designed with plenty of gentle rides and shaded seating for parents. The staff were very patient with the little ones, and the whole park felt safe and family-friendly. We stayed until closing and the evening parade was magical. Highly recommend for a family day out!

Honestly, it was just okay. I've been to bigger theme parks overseas, and Happy Valley felt a bit dated in some areas. A couple of rides were closed for maintenance without any notice at the entrance. The staff at the ticket booth wasn't very helpful either. For the price, I expected more. Not terrible, but I won't rush back.

Had a solid day out here. The pirate ship and water rides were really fun, though the wait for the big coasters was about 50 minutes each. The park is clean and well-organized, but I wish the food options weren't so overpriced. Still, a good value for the number of attractions you get – I'd give it a solid 4 stars.

Absolutely insane roller coasters! The Wooden Coaster gave me a serious adrenaline rush – I rode it three times in a row. The staff was super energetic and the queues moved faster than I expected on a Saturday. If you love thrill rides, this place is a must. Already planning my next trip back!

Happy Valley Shanghai Travel FAQ

Are there locker facilities for bags?
Yes, lockers are available near the entrance and major rides for 20-30 RMB per day. They're secure and spacious enough for backpacks. I used one for my extra jacket; it saved me from carrying it around all day.
