A solid 4/5. The seaside promenade is gorgeous, especially in the late afternoon when the sunlight hits the water. I rented a bike and cycled through the neighborhood — very enjoyable. My only gripe: some of the villa gardens are gated off and you can't get close to the details. Also, the nearby food stalls charge tourist prices for average snacks. But for a free scenic walk with beautiful architecture, it's a good deal.
This is a photographer's paradise! I'm a history buff, so I loved reading about the different architectural styles — from Gothic to Baroque to Romanesque. The 'Butterfly Building' and the 'Eight Great Passes' intersection are must-sees. If you come in autumn, the maple leaves turn fiery red and contrast beautifully with the yellow walls. Every single shot came out magazine-worthy. Could easily spend two days here.
Honestly, I was a bit let down. The concept is nice — a scenic area with old colonial houses and tree-lined roads — but a lot of the paths were under construction when I went, and there were almost no directional signs in English. I ended up walking in circles trying to find the famous 'Zhengjue Temple'. Also, the public restrooms were dirty and far apart. Might be better once renovations finish.
Great area for a stroll and architecture lovers. The buildings are beautiful and well-preserved. I docked one star because on a sunny weekend it gets uncomfortably crowded — especially near the popular photo spots. Also, the cafe we stopped at near the sea was overpriced and the coffee was just okay. Still worth a visit if you go early in the morning.
Absolutely love this place! The mix of European-style villas and the lush greenery along the tree-lined streets is just stunning. We spent an entire afternoon walking from the Second Bathing Beach all the way to the Princess’s Mansion — every corner feels like a postcard. The cherry blossoms were in full bloom when I visited, and the scent mixed with the sea breeze made it unforgettable. Perfect for a slow, relaxing day.
