If you have 5+ hours of layover (after factoring immigration and security), you can absolutely visit Haikou's old town. Here's the exact plan I use with my groups.
Recommended Destination: Qilou Old Street (骑楼老街)
Address: Zhongshan Road, Longhua District (中山路, 龙华区) — show this to your driver. It's free to enter, no ticket needed. The streets are lined with arcade buildings built by overseas Chinese—a mix of Southeast Asian and European styles. Great for photos, local snacks, and a quick feel of old Hainan.

- 00:00 – Depart airport (after clearing immigration and customs).
