I’ve lost count of how many guests I’ve rescued from the wrong shuttle bus stop. “But Google Maps said…” – yeah, Google Maps is mostly useless here. The Venetian Macao is huge, and if you arrive at the wrong entrance, you’ll waste 20 minutes walking across the casino floor. Let me save you that headache.
Why Most Foreign Tourists Get Lost (and How to Avoid It)
Three things trip up nearly every first-timer:
- Payment chaos: Most shuttle drivers don’t accept cash. You need Alipay or WeChat Pay. Many foreign cards don’t work on the bus payment terminals. Solution? Use the free shuttles – they’re completely free, no payment needed.
- Navigation black hole: Google Maps shows wrong bus routes and walking times. Apple Maps works better, but I recommend using Baidu Maps (English version) or just ask hotel staff. I always tell my clients to screenshot the Chinese address: “威尼斯人度假村”. Show it to taxi drivers.
- Multiple entrances: The Venetian has a main entrance, a Cotai Strip entrance, and a casino entrance. If you’re going to the hotel lobby, use the main entrance. If you want to shop, use the Cotai Strip entrance. Ask your shuttle driver to drop you at the correct one.
From Macau International Airport to The Venetian Macao
Free Shuttle Bus (Best Option)
Exit the arrivals hall and look for signs saying “Hotel Shuttles”. Stand near Bay 3. The Venetian’s shuttle runs every 15-20 minutes. It’s a white bus with “Venetian Macao” written in gold. Journey takes about 10 minutes – no traffic. Drop-off is at the hotel’s main entrance. Important: No reservation needed, but the last shuttle leaves the airport at 11 PM. If you land later, take a taxi.
Taxi (Expect MOP 80-100)
Head to the official taxi stand. Tell the driver “威尼斯人” (pronounced “wai nei sei yan”). The meter should read around MOP 80. Drivers often try to add a MOP 5 surcharge – it’s normal. Watch out: Some drivers refuse to use the meter. Insist, or walk away. Payment: Cash (MOP) or Alipay. Credit cards are rarely accepted.
Ride-hailing (Macau App)
Uber doesn’t work in Macau. Use the local app “Macau Taxi” (available in English) or “panda ride”. The fare is similar to taxis. You can pay with Alipay. I’ve used it; it’s reliable but requires a local SIM or Wi-Fi.

From Hong Kong to The Venetian Macao
TurboJet Ferry to Taipa Ferry Terminal
Book your ferry on TurboJet’s website (English). Depart from Hong Kong’s Sheung Wan or Kowloon. Fare: Around HKD 160-200 one way. Arrive at Taipa Ferry Terminal – it’s closer to the Venetian than the Macau Peninsula terminal. From Taipa, follow the signs to “Hotel Shuttles”. The Venetian shuttle bus is clearly marked. It runs every 10-15 minutes, free, 5-minute ride.
Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Bus
Take the HZMB bus from Hong Kong Port to Macau Port (MOP 65). Then take the free shuttle from Macau Port to the Venetian. This option is cheaper but longer (1 hour bus + 20 min shuttle). Pro tip: The bus drops you at Macau Port (not Taipa). From there, the Venetian shuttle runs every 20 minutes. Total cost under MOP 80.
Helicopter (For the Rich)
Sky Shuttle helicopter from Hong Kong to Macau. 15-minute flight, HKD 4,300 one way. Lands at Macau Ferry Terminal. You’ll get a free limo to the Venetian. Only if you’re splurging – but hey, I’ve had clients who did it just for the photos.
From Macau Peninsula (Senado Square, Ruins of St. Paul) to The Venetian Macao
You’re probably staying near the old town. Here’s how to get to the Cotai Strip:
- Bus MT1 or MT2: Catch at “Almeida Ribeiro” stop (outside Senado Square). The bus runs every 10 minutes. Drop at “Cotai Strip / Venetian” stop. Fare: MOP 6. Use Macau Pass card or Alipay. Catch: Buses are crowded during rush hour (5-7 PM). Avoid if you have luggage.
- Taxi: From Senado Square, about MOP 60-80. Tell driver “Cotai Strip”. Journey: 15 minutes unless traffic.
- Free Shuttle from Grand Lisboa: Many peninsula hotels (like Grand Lisboa) have free shuttles to the Venetian. Check at your hotel’s concierge. It’s not always advertised, but it exists.
From Zhuhai (Border Gates) to The Venetian Macao
Most travelers cross from mainland China through Gongbei (拱北) or Hengqin (横琴) ports.
Gongbei Port (拱北口岸)
After clearing immigration, walk to the main bus terminal (right outside). Look for the “Venetian Macao” shuttle. Free, every 20 minutes. Warning: This shuttle is always packed on weekends. If you see a long line, walk further to the “Public Bus” area and take bus 25 or 25X (MOP 6) – it also stops at the Venetian.
Hengqin Port (横琴口岸)
This port is newer and less crowded. After exiting, take the free shuttle to “Cotyai Strip” (provided by the government). It stops at the Venetian last. My advice: Use Hengqin if you’re coming from the Macau airport direction – it’s closer to the Venetian than Gongbei.
Important Tips for Foreign Tourists
Payment setup: Link your international credit card to Alipay before you arrive. Test it. Many taxis and shops only accept Alipay/WeChat Pay.
Carry MOP 200: For back-up. Some small shops and old-school taxi drivers prefer cash.
English address: The Venetian Macao, Estrada da Baía de Nossa Senhora da Esperança, Cotai, Macau. Show this to drivers.
Time your arrival: Avoid arriving between 5-7 PM on weekdays – that’s when the Cotai Strip traffic jams up. Arrive before 4 PM or after 8 PM.
