Affordable hotels cluster around the station. Pros: Metro Line 2 directly connects to Ice World station (stop: “Harbin Ice and Snow World”). 15 minutes by subway, no traffic. Cons: Area feels a bit rougher, not much to see.

The Ice and Snow Festival (early Jan to late Feb) is peak season. Here's what I tell every group:

- Check the cancellation policy – Winter storms rarely cancel flights, but they do delay. Some hotels offer free cancellation up to 24 hours.
- Use the WeChat mini-program of the hotel directly – sometimes you get a better rate than on international booking sites. But you'll need a Chinese WeChat account.
- Avoid rooms on the top floor – in older buildings, heating can be weak. Ask for a mid-floor room.
How to Get to the Ice World from Your Hotel
From Songbei: Taxi 10–15 yuan (5 min). Some hotels have free shuttle – ask at check-in.
From Central Street: Take Metro Line 2 from “Central Street Station” to “Harbin Ice and Snow World Station” (about 25 min, 3 yuan). Or Didi (taxi app) about 40–60 yuan depending on traffic.
From Railway Station: Metro Line 2 directly – no transfers. Get off at the same stop.
Important: The last metro leaves the Ice World station around 22:30. I always tell my guests to leave the park by 21:30 to avoid the rush and catch the train.
